In its 2005 budget, the Ontario government announced that it would amend the legislation governing professional corporations to permit corporations controlled by doctors to issue shares to family members (see “Paper C: Details of Revenue Measures” under the heading “Professional Corporations”). The changes will give doctors more opportunities to split income with family members, and so the announcement has heightened interest among medical professionals in incorporating their practices.
Over the next week or so, I will be presenting a paper on whether doctors should incorporate to several meetings of members of Regional Medical Associates of Hamilton. You can download a copy of the PowerPoint presentation here.
