Access to information requests

I’ll sometimes make a Privacy Act or access to information request so that I can see the auditor’s or appeals officer’s file (or both). The CRA has published a webpage on how to make such requests, which is a welcome change. In the bad old days, making the requests could be a very frustrating experience. The CRA’s requirements for a valid request seemed to change and where the requests were supposed to be sent was a Mystery. A search of the CRA website, in years past, revealed nothing that could provide guidance. My nasty suspicion was that the CRA was trying to discourage requests by making the process opaque and difficult (or by concealing the process entirely).
